What is BetterAsk?
BetterAsk is an independent, engineering-based review of your HVAC contractor quotes. You upload the proposals you've received, and we return a clear report that compares them, flags hidden risks, and gives you the right questions to ask — so you can decide with confidence instead of guessing.
How does the analysis work?
You upload 2 to 5 quotes as PDFs or photos. Our engine reads each one for scope, equipment, warranty, permits, load calculations, and more, then scores and compares them — weighted toward the priority you choose (lowest cost, lowest risk, best efficiency, or long-term value). You get a report with rankings, engineering risks, a data appendix, and prioritized questions.
Is this an AI review or a human engineer?
The analysis is automated (AI), applied with HVAC-specific engineering structure and discipline. It's not a licensed engineer reviewing your quotes by hand — and we're upfront about that. What you're getting is expert-informed analysis, delivered fast and affordably, to help you ask smarter questions before you sign.
Are you actually unbiased?
Yes. We don't sell leads, take contractor commissions, or get paid to recommend anyone. Our only customer is you. The recommendation is based on the evidence in the quotes and your stated priority — never on who's paying us, because no contractor is.
What kinds of quotes can I upload?
HVAC replacement proposals — AC, heat pump, furnace, full-system, mini-split, dual-fuel, and package units. Upload typed PDFs, screenshots, or clear photos (JPG or PNG). We don't currently review roofing, solar, plumbing, windows, or remodeling quotes.
How long does it take?
Most reports are ready within a few minutes of payment. You'll land on your report as soon as the analysis finishes.
How much does it cost?
$99 for one review of up to five quotes — one-time, no subscription. You can view a complete sample report before paying or creating an account. See the pricing page for what's included.
Is my information private?
Yes. Your uploaded quotes and personal details are kept confidential and used only to produce your review. See our Privacy Policy for the specifics.
Will BetterAsk tell me which contractor to hire?
We give you a clear recommended pick and the reasoning behind it, matched to your priority — but the final call is yours. Just as important, we hand you the specific questions to take back to each contractor so you can confirm the details yourself.
What if something goes wrong with my report?
If a quote can't be read or a report doesn't generate correctly, email hello@betterask.app and we'll sort it out.
