Why BetterAsk exists
Most people replacing an HVAC system get two to five wildly different quotes and no real way to tell what’s actually different between them. The things that determine whether you’ll be comfortable — proper load calculations, ductwork, commissioning (the process of verifying that a system is installed, tested, and performing as intended), permits — are invisible unless you know exactly what to look for. BetterAsk brings that engineering lens to your quotes so the differences stop being invisible.
The engineering behind it
BetterAsk was created by an engineer with more than 20 years of HVAC and building-performance experience. The engineering principles used to evaluate large commercial HVAC systems have been adapted to help homeowners better understand residential replacement proposals.
Why this matters
I’ve spent much of my career evaluating HVAC systems from an engineering perspective — looking beyond the equipment itself to determine whether a system is properly designed, installed, and capable of performing as intended.
Over the years, one thing became clear: homeowners are often faced with one of the largest investments they’ll ever make while having very little independent guidance. Quotes can differ by thousands of dollars, yet the reasons behind those differences are rarely explained in a way that’s easy to understand.
I created BetterAsk to bring that engineering perspective to homeowners in a practical, affordable way — helping people ask better questions and make more informed decisions before signing a contract.
How we stay independent
