Privacy Policy

What we collect
- Account info: name, email address, and password (stored securely by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see or store your plaintext password).
- Home information you provide: ZIP code, square footage, year built, number of floors, current HVAC system type, and any comfort issues you select.
- The HVAC contractor quotes you upload, as PDF files or photos.
- Any optional notes or concerns you type in when submitting a review.
- Your selected analysis priority (e.g. Lowest Cost, Lowest Risk).
- Basic usage events (e.g. that a review was submitted or a report was viewed) to help us understand how the product is used. These events do not contain the content of your quotes.
How we use it
We use your home information and uploaded quotes to generate your independent quote review. That means:
- Your uploaded quote files and home details are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. Anthropic processes this data on our behalf to extract and compare quote information; it is not used by Anthropic to train their models under our current agreement.
- Your data is stored in our database and file storage, provided by Supabase.
- The app itself is hosted by Netlify.
- If you upgrade to a paid tier, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your card details ourselves.
Anonymized and aggregated use
With your consent at upload, we may anonymize submitted quote data (stripped of your name, address, and other identifying details) and use it in aggregate to improve our quote analysis system and to build features like regional price benchmarking. Aggregated, anonymized data of this kind cannot reasonably be traced back to you or your home.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your personal information or your uploaded quotes.
- We do not share your contact information with HVAC contractors.
- We do not accept referral commissions from contractors.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your account data and submitted reviews for as long as your account is active. You can delete an individual review — including its uploaded files — at any time from your dashboard; this permanently removes the files from storage and the review from our database. To delete your entire account, contact us at the email below; we will delete your account and associated data within 30 days, except where we're required to retain certain records by law.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encryption in transit and database access controls (Row Level Security) that restrict every user to their own data. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of information you transmit to us.
Children's privacy
BetterAsk is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect information from, anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
